Sarah Kurhajetz, guest blogger on the February Workshop
I have a confession to make. I am skeptical about books and workshops that claim they will transform my life or help me become clear about my life purpose. I’m skeptical not because I don’t think it’s possible, but because I’ve read a lot of those books and attended countless seminars and for the most part my life looks the same as it did before the workshop or the book. At the same time, something inside me knew that I should sign up for Tarra Christoff’s workshop, "Yes, You Can: Manifesting Your Vision for the World," on February 23. It was the part of me that knows, deep down, the one and only “reason” why my life doesn’t look the way I want it to look is because I’ve chosen to settle for “good enough.”
To launch the workshop, we each shared an item we’d brought that represented our vision. Participants brought stories, photos, paintings that resonated with their dreams of vibrant, sustainable communities. I brought a piece of prose written by Clarissa Pinkola Estes. The following is an excerpt from this piece, “Iassign you to be a beautiful, good, kind, awakened, soulful person, a true work of art as we say, ser humano, a true human being. In a world filled with so much darkness, such a soul shines like gold; can be seen from a far distance; is dramatically different.” As I was reading, it occurred to me that this is what I want for everybody. I want everybody to evolve into their fullest expression of themselves.
Putting this new bold way of living into concrete action, I committed in the next seven days to research clean water projects that are underway in Africa. I chose this action because clean water is a basic human need that everyone deserves to have. Without our basic needs met we can not become the fullest expression of ourselves. Others committed to finding a mentor to guide them on their career path, to develop a daily meditation practice, to study for the GMAT, or to focus on their strengths in service of their higher goals.
For those of you who weren’t in attendance you have an assignment. Your mission, should you choose to accept it:
Show your deepest most divine self to the world. There is nothing more rare, more strange, more needed. Why would you wait? Not worthy? Oh, piffle. Not ready? Okay, so when? Next lifetime? Anything you do from the soulful self will help lighten the burdens of the world. Anything. We have no idea what the smallest word, the tiniest generosity, can cause to be set in motion. Fall short? Try again. Mastery is made in increments, not in leaps. Be brave, be fierce, be visionary. To strive to live this way is the most dramatic gift you can ever give to the world. Consider yourselves assigned.
I would love to hear what results you produce through this assignment. Please comment on this post to tell me about the bold actions you plan to take or have taken in service of the fullest expression of yourself.
What was different about this workshop that it inspired change in your life? How did you recognize it as a call to action?
