For all of you with an interest in international issues, women's and girls' empowerment, taking a venture from idea to full-blown success, and building a global career from right here in Portland, we have a special treat for our July YWSE meeting: a chance to hear from Jensine Larsen, internationally acclaimed speaker and founder of World Pulse Media. World Pulse, which is based here in Portland, connects readers to global issues through the eyes and pens of the world's women and children, through its online community PulseWire as well as a print and online magazine.

Since founding the magazine at age 28, Jensine (Yen-see-nah) has met and worked with some of the world's most inspiring women, and is excited to be bringing some of their stories to our event: stories of women who have overcome long odds to produce transformative change in their societies. Join us as we become inspired by their stories, by Jensine's story, and by our own potential to create the change we wish to see.

She is currently leading a local company developing wind turbines, managing the award winning Eleek Inc., and growing VOIS, a state wide alliance of sustainable, forward-thinking entrepreneurs. Learn how they took the step to start their own social entrepreneur company, and how they made it work!

Global Sistergoods, Inc. is an online, fair trade marketplace for products made by women in over twenty developing countries. KJ and Beth started GSG in 2005 and have grown it over the past 4 years by learning and doing everything from marketing and communications to public relations. They do everything from web copy, blogging, social networking, and writing and sending press releases. They started from scratch and figured out how to find legal, accounting, and international help. They've also managed interns, contractors and ongoing projects. Finally, they've found a mentor to help them through it all. Come find out how they did it, what they wish they'd known when they started, and who they asked for help along the way.

Many entrepreneurs find that they wear every hat imaginable in their small
business. As business grows, many then get to a point in which they need to
figure out ways to grow or expand but there is only so much time in a day – what
is the small business owner to do? This is when many entrepreneurs consider
opportunities to bring on an individual or small teams to help with the work
load so that they can focus on growing the business. Leslie Croghan, Associate
Management Counselor with the Business Outreach Program at Portland State
University will share staffing tips and considerations in implementing interns,
contractors and employees. Which is best for you, where do you start, how do
you fund, and what HR and legal issues need to be considered?

Leslie Croghan is an Associate Management Counselor at Portland State
University's Business Outreach Program where she works to promote the its
mission: to help small businesses, including emerging, minority and women-owned
enterprises, while providing students with opportunities for community-based
learning. In working one-on-one with small business owners Leslie provides
comprehensive business support and assistance to help entrepreneurs overcome the
challenges of business ownership. Leslie's professional background is in the
field of Human Resources where she has worked in manufacturing, banking, retail
and high-tech industries.
