So, you've heard this hip term "social entrepreneurship", it sounds very cool and there is an increasing buzz around these SE people who are changing our world. But, really, what does this mean? And, could it apply to what you are doing or are thinking of doing? Join us for a night of powerful exploration, guided by a panel of experts in the field. Learn how they have personally created successful social enterprises and how they have worked with people and groups to help them change the world in corporate and non-profit world. Our panel includes Shauna Mohr, a founding member of YWSE San Fran and the Founder of Lucina Jewelry, as well as Nick Viele, a "40 Under 40 " Award Winner who works as international consultant to SEs. There will be a facilitated panel discussion and time for open Q & A. The night begins at 7:30 at souk, $5 cover includes wine and munchies. Join us for a powerful night of ideas and inspiration!

After the birth of her daughter Ingrid in 2004, Shauna Alexander Mohr was inspired to create a meaningful business collaborating with women and families in developing and war-torn countries. That mission came to life through Lucina, named after the Roman goddess of light and birth.
While working internationally as a fair trade coffee buyer and strategy consultant, Shauna came across skillfully handcrafted materials available from fair trade workshops in Africa, Latin America and Asia. As a social entrepreneur, she saw the opportunity to partner with American designers to transform these enchanting components into an elegant, upscale collection of jewelry. Joined by designers Scarlet Chamberlin and Ronda Kelly, Shauna created the Lucina jewelry line in fall 2005.
Lucina is the culmination of Shauna's experience and passions: her expertise in fair trade commerce, her graduate degree in environmental economics from Yale, her work nurturing small businesses in Latin America, and her love of exquisite handcrafted products. Shauna believes that smart, soulful businesses can transform lives and be an engine of world benefit. She's proving it through Lucina.
Nick Viele is an independent consultant dedicated to strengthening the social-sector through his work with Executive Directors, development professionals and Boards of Directors. He focuses on long-term and short-term organizational strategy.
After receiving a management degree from Stonehill College, Nick worked in direct social service and for a facilities management-consulting firm before being hired in 2000 as the first employee of Portland-based Schoolhouse Supplies. Three years later Nick was named as its Executive Director. Schoolhouse Supplies grew from a $34k organization to a $2.5 million organization, was featured on NBC's Today Show, and has earned a reputation as one of the most effective nonprofit organizations in Portland. During Nick's term, Schoolhouse Supplies won numerous awards including Most Innovative Nonprofit Project. For his work with Schoolhouse Supplies and on other volunteer assignments, Nick was selected as one of Portland's 40 most effective leaders under 40 years of age in 2007 by the Portland Business Journal.
Nick recently designed and facilitated a five-day strategy retreat for the New York City based Freelancer's Union at the Rockefeller Foundation's Conference Center in Bellagio, Italy
