Are there areas in your life in which you are assuming that conforming is the path to belonging and connection – when in fact maybe sharing your real ideas/voice/feelings might be the path?
If you answered YES to that question, then maybe it's time for a bigger playground, where you can shout out loud your deepest desires!
I did some shouting of my own last summer. In June 2012, I quit my job. Yes, quit. I wasn't let go, fired, or transferred. And many of you reading this might think this a silly thing to do while there's a recession going on. I didn't even have another job lined up! My own relatives weren't exactly optimistic... But I did it because I wasn't where I was supposed to be. I could feel that I was suffocating in my job, and my lifestyle. I was unhappy.
I knew that a drastic change had to be made. It wasn't an easy decision at first, but as soon as I said out loud - shouting from the rooftops - it felt incredibly right!
Jump to present day, and I couldn't be happier. My boyfriend of 4 years and I have traveled extensively together, we gave up our apartment (that we both disliked), and I am currently excelling in my role with this organization, Young Women Social Entrepreneurs. I am surrounded by positive, strong, encouraging people. And I haven't regretted my decision to quit my job for one minute.
How does this transition come about? I learned how to speak up for myself and dream big. It's in each of us, but it takes courage and commitment to let it out. Getting help as you learn to dream big is a necessity. I had a coach. A great one. And she helped me manage my fears, my doubts, and ultimately, my vision.
This is truly our time as women, but we need community & an empowering education to claim it! So, YWSE is proud to present... PLAYING BIG!
Playing Big is a six-month, in-depth program for women who want to play bigger in their work and in their lives, created and led by women's leadership expert, Tara Sophia Mohr. The Playing Big journey is part inner work to help you overcome fears, end procrastination, and clarify your vision. It's part practical training in skills such as communication, negotiation, and getting media attention for your work. Past participant Ariane Hunter had this to say: "From day one of the Playing Big course, I felt things begin to shift within me, like I haven't experienced before. It was the most transformative process I have ever engaged in." Click here to learn more about Playing Big and see if it's the right fit for you.
Your playing big isn’t defined on the world’s terms. It isn’t necessarily owning an empire or making millions. You know what playing big means for you. It’s following that inspiration that is in your heart. Seeing it through. It is getting out there — visible. It is your voice, your vision, your unique contribution, flowing forth, no longer shrunken down, stopped up inside you, or compromised.
